Kafé&Kitchen

This organic restaurant and gourmet food shop is situated in Zaha Hadid’s acclaimed Wangjing SOHO mixed use development in Beijing’s Chaoyang District. The driving concept behind the design was to create a large open kitchen displaying the preparation process of the food, an inviting informal seating area and to display the produce of the store in an engaging way.

The creation of a mezzanine as storage space allowed us to maximise space on the ground floor and to save space in the kitchens. The mezzanine is clad in a wave of black painted laser cut steel which hangs above the open kitchen, accented with brass articulated glass shelves. The seating area is full height, the space punctuated with hanging pendant lights creating a bright and spacious environment. The restaurant’s color scheme is consistent with it’s branding, green patterned custom tiles cut a path through the reclaimed wood floor leading the customer to the counter and one of the side walls houses a metal structure fitted with individual curved movable wooden shelves, complete with ladder, which displays the produce.
